SUPPORT THE COMPROMISE!

I attended The Vulcan vs. The city of Maryville forum last night with my husband. It was QUITE a show!!! First let me say that I support the compromise! Vulcan Materials has been a part of Maryville for 50 years and they have the right to remain in Maryville for another 50!! These people say they want Vulcan to go, but what they haven't taken the time to think about is that people work there! That is someone's livelyhood you are talking about! The real issue is not whether or not Vulcan will remain in Maryville or not. The real issue is where the future mining will occur. Vulcan wants to reach a compromise that will allow them to continue mining toward to center of the property abd away from Duncan road. If these residents really understood what was going on, they too would support the compromise. Not to mention the $180,000(+) in taxpayers money that is being used in the trial and researach against Vulcan.
If a compromise is not reached, Vulcan will continue to mine. They aren't going anywhere. The compromise will just determine WHICH way they go.

Vulcan was built in Maryville in 1947. MOST of these houses directly around the quarry were built years later! YEARS! MOST of the people who got up to speak last night WERE NOT there BEFORE the quarry! They moved in KNOWING that there was a quarry!! KNOWING! And yet they still chose to move there! If anyone is to blame, its the land developers and the City of Maryville for zoning the area around the quarry residental.

This one lady decides to get up and speak her piece. She was, as most people there were, against Vulcan. She told of no more frogs in her stream.(sigh) No more snakes floating by. (sob sob) Sink holes (where she said her TWO YEAR OLD could fall in if he were outside playing alone - HE SHOULDNT BE OUTSIDE PLAYING ALONE!! HE'S TWO!!!) Then she has the nerve to end her little piece with this statement (not word for word - I'm not that amazing - but its pretty dern close) "With Vulcan comes Harrison, With Harrison comes trucks, with trucks comes dust." GRRRRRR. She's hit home now!!!

We need to let Vulcan know and the City of Maryville know that we SUPPORT THE COMPROMISE! If Vulcan loses, these people are coming after Harrison next! Not too much to worry about because Vulcan's pockets are MUCH deeper then the City's!!!

If you'd like to know more, here is a website with the story of last nights meeting.

It was VERY interesting! A few times my heart rate went THROUGH the ROOF because these people are SO clueless! I will say this, not EVERYONE there was against Vulcan. There were several Vulcan employees, Harrison employees, area contractors, and people who actually live in that area who supported Vulcan and the compromise!

Another thing, where do these people think they get all the materials to build these houses and roads they drive on! ? Vulcan supplies 97% of the materials used in Blount County!
